Break Your Own Rules…..

So, I recently went out to celebrate one of my best friend’s birthdays. We hit the town for a few Archers and lemonades and lots of dancing. At 3AM we could not stop yawning and made the decision to call a taxi and head home for some much needed sleep and to give our feet a rest from our heels. As we left the infamous Krazyhouse we headed to a local fast food Chicken outlet for food. One of the girls stated that ‘she never went for food after a night out’. The rest of us where shocked. After all, what is better than fast food after you have danced yourself silly and drank even sillier amounts of alcohol for the last five hours? She broke the habit of a lifetime and bought herself two pieces of chicken, three chicken wings and a large fries.

So what was the purpose of that little story? Well it got me thinking about the rules we set for ourselves. My friend’s rule was never to buy food after going on a night out but she broke it for the first time in her life. Now other people set themselves other rules; only eat one chocolate bar a day or only have a glass of wine at the weekend. As the famous line goes, rules are made to be broken. So eat two chocolates bars in one day instead of just your normal one. Have that little glass of wine on a Monday evening when you get home from work. Take an afternoon nap instead of fighting to stay awake. Treat yourself to that new dress you have seen instead of saving for a rainy day. Go ahead and break your rules. Live life on the edge every once in a while.

The one thing I have learned about life is that it goes on. Life does not wait for anyone. It does not wait until you are ready to have fun or you are ready to be brave. It goes on regardless of what you feel or whether you are ready or not. Time does not stand still. The clock continues to turn, the day carries on. You will never get yesterday back. Many people struggle with the what ifs in life and regret not doing something when they had the opportunity. I urge you to not live like that. Grab the opportunities that come your way, rebel a little, break YOUR rules and have fun living life. Life is over before we know it and we have to make the most of the one we have been given.

You have to take the good with the bad, smile with the sad, love what you got, remember what you had, always forgive, but ever forget, learn from your mistakes, but never regret, people change, things go wrong, but in the end life goes on
